I’ve never been a bridesmaid. Gosh that’s sad isn’t it? I’ve spent many hours wondering why? Is it because I’m not a good enough friend? Maybe I was too old?
But now I know the real truth–it’s because I wasn’t fat enough. Yes that’s right. Brides all around the place are choosing fat bridesmaids to make themselves look better.
Clever or conniving or maybe cleverly conniving but recent research says one third of British women would choose an overweight friend to make themselves appear slimmer as they walk down the aisle.
One respondent even said she hired models from the ugly agency as her cousin and sister were too good looking and would show her up.
“Needless to say I looked completely stunning walking down the aisle after them and in photos I looked positively Cindy Crawford-like!” she said.
Self-esteem issues or what?
So now we know the reason that brides choose really ugly dresses for their bridesmaids to wear, and why so much of that very flattering biased cut satin abounds–it’s to make the bridesmaids look as ugly as possible. But we all knew that didn’t we?
Now me , I had two (slim) bridesmaids dressed in fuschia pink ruched dresses with MATCHING shoes. I promise you I was not trying to make them look ugly–but it was the 80s and there wasn’t really much in tasteful fashion around in those days.
So Janet and Jill, my apologies. Making me look good was not my intention in my choice of bridesmaid outfit. Image I thought I was making a wise fashion choice. After all you were able to wear it again. Weren’t you?
