V starts on TV here on Sunday night. That’s the new V [Visitors] not the old Von the SciFi channel that I’ve been watching for the last two years or so. God I love that show. I just hope they’ve done a good job on the remake. My favourite scene–when the half alien half baby was born. Gorgeous, not lizard like at all and then it stuck out its big green lizard tongue. I’m not ashamed to say I screamed. Still have nightmares about it to this day.
There’s been quite a few of them hasn’t there (remakes not lizard babies). Seems Hollywood has kidnapped quite a few of our Gen X movie and TV shows from the 80’s. There must be a creativity desert in LA at the moment.
I’m looking forward to the new A Team (check out the trailer) though I’m not entirely convinced about Liam Neeson in the George Peppard role. Not quite sure that he’s smart arsey enough. Somehow “I love it when a plans comes together” in an Irish accent isn’t quite right. But I’ll go and see it anyway.
You’ll never guess who plays Face? Big hint–he’s been in 3000 movies since last June. Bradley Cooper. He’ll be great because he’s so darn pretty. And a wrestler is playing BA Barracas. This movie has an actor for the whole family. The original TV producer Stephen Cannell is involved in the movie so at least it won’t disintegrate into a farce unlike Starsky and Hutch.
Didn’t they stuff that up? The whole satire thing didn’t work and it really turned me off Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson for ages. They should have known better than to treat an icon like that. In the day, you were either a Starsky or a Hutch person. Me, Starsky all the way. Loved that jumper he wore. Spent the better part of my early teens looking for a jumper like that. Don’t ask me why I wanted to dress like a 30 year old man, just wanted to be close to him I guess (sorry that sounds a bit stalkery). My mother loved Hutch and I believe she was one of the 20 people in the world who bought his Don’t Give Up on Us Baby single. No I lie, lots of people bought it–it was a big hit. It’s a shame he went all alcoholic and lost his looks.
They should have taken a tip from Drew Barrymore when she remade Charlie’s Angels. Gosh they were great weren’t they. Personally, I think it rebooted Cameron Diaz’s and Drew Barrymore’s careers. Lucy Liu not so sure–I just don’t like her. Probably because she always plays a bitch, a pyscho or a gangster. And Demi Moore must get down on her knees every night to thank the movie gods who rediscovered her because where was she before that? That’s right, no one knows. Actually she hasn’t been in anything decent lately but she’s got Ashton Kutcher and Twitter, so good on her.
But I want to know where the 90210 and Melrose Place remakes are? 90210 was on our TV for about 5 minutes and poof–gone. It looked really good too. If I was really keen on it I would resort to watching it on the internet, but I don’t do that because it’s illegal. And as for Melrose Place, well the original started off well, but then got really, really stupid at the end. Actually it was pretty stupid throughout, even I couldn’t keep up in the last series.
But what a asset for acting that show turned out to be–Laura Leighton, Josie Bisset (you can find them on the movie of the week on the Hallmark channel), Marcia Cross (who was the doctor/bomber/baldie Dr Kimberly Cross) and Doug Savant, who was the token gay guy until they wouldn’t let him kiss on screen and he left in a huff, are on Desperate Housewives and Kelly Rutherford is who I want to be in her role on Gossip Girl. Can’t tell you about the new Melrose though because I haven’t seen it and I’m being all upright citizen and not watching illegal downloads (does she protest too much).
So this is my incomplete list of good and bad remakes.
The Good
- Charlie’s Angels (all of them)
- A Team (I like the trailer)
- Life on Mars (the US version. Why did the idiots cancel it?)
- V (special effects have to make it better)
- Battlestar Gallactica (it’s much better than the original)
The Bad
- Starsky and Hutch
- Knight Rider (Val Kilmer is KITT therefore it sucks)
- Dukes of Hazzard
- Scooby Doo (Buffy how could you do this to yourself?)
- Kath and Kim (the US version–a travesty)
What TV show would you like/never like to see remade?
