The Blind Side is on my good side

You know how I’ve been complaining, whingeing and bitching about all the crap movies around. Hardly anyone agrees with me, but I don’t care because if anyone thinks that that Pokohontas rip-off Avatar is a quality film then they need a good talking too.

So after seeing aforementioned stupid Avatar, and the wake me up when it’s over Up in the Air and the ludicrous Nine, then you’ll be pleased to know that I’ve found a film I can highly recommend and that is The Blind Side.

I loved The Blind Side, best film I’ve seen this year. I could be biased mind, as I have a little secret that I think I might share with you. I love and adore American sports movies. No one else on the planet can do a sports movie as well as Hollywood. Now I know that a love of Hollywood sports movies might be a little unusual, but we all have our little secrets don’t we?
Someone I know (OK me) really likes Mills and Boon Blaze books. Don’t laugh. They’re virtually pornographic. Goodness me I’ve learnt a few tricks from those book. Some people are secret line dancers (that is NOT me), while others have a guilty love of chicko rolls (OK me again). But nothing comes close to my love of sports movies from The Rookie to Racing Stripes to Bull Durham. Now deep down I know that most of these are total rot, but they’re entertaining and the good guy mostly triumphs, but The Blind Side is one of those rare combinations, sports movie and quality cinema.

It’s also true. So true that some of the stuff that happens in the movie happened like just the other day (oh well last year, but no matter). I love it when this happens as it gives me a vested interest in the news. I now know that I have to keep an eye out for Michael Oher when I real about gridiron football.

Now you would think that since I love sports movies so much that I would have a good idea of American sports. Well no. I cannot understand gridiron–at all. I’ve tried, but it just goes on and on and it’s so disorganised and messy and full of big men with huge arses, shoulders and heads. Can’t fathom it, but I do love to watch a movie about it.

So what’s not to like about this movie. It’s got Sandra Bullock, lots of sport, cute kid, lovable main character, a bit of social conscious and a moral dilemma.

It’s not got one blue avatar character talking a stupid language in it, screeching singing Hollywood actresses or a sleep-walking George Clooney. All round winner I say.

Just in case you don’t believe me about the whole Pokohontas-Avatar thing have a look at this image from Fail Blog. Still think it deserves best picture?
