Gen X Journey

Hollywood celebrities put a fair bit of pressure on we ordinary folk with their ageless look, perfect bodies, coiffed hair, but we can always remind ourselves that they have to look like this to have a career and also take comfort in the fact that most of them seem quite dumb, maybe not Megan-Fox-dumb, but dumb all the same.

And then they go throw 58-year-old Kathryn Bigelow into the mix. Sorry, we can’t dismiss Kathryn Bigelow, the fourth woman in Oscar history to be nominated for the best director award, as dumb.

 That’s right, she’s the director. She doesn’t even need to look this good to have a career film. So she makes them and is still all ageless look, perfect body, coiffed hair–way to raise the bar. Don’t know who does her work, but I hope she introduces Nicole Kidman to him/her soon.

So in the interests of current events here are seven Kathryn Bigelow factoids

• She’s 58
• She was nominated best director for The Hurt Locker (Aussies haven’t seen this yet. Don’t know why? They’re too busy pushing crap like Nine on us.)
• She was married to James Cameron (1989-91, the third of his five marriages–who is this man Henry VIII?)
• She maintains an amicable relationship with James Cameron (how mature)
• She directed Point Break (Gen X movie icon)
• She is a talented artist (she’s a student of the Whitney Museum)
• She specialises in action movies (how cool)

God I hope I look like this when I’m 58 (or even 43).
