Did you know you could do this with an eggshell?

I love a glass of cold tea, so to make my life easier I decant it into one of those tall water bottles with a cork on top. Looks nice, doesn’t take up much room in the fridge, and there’s zero calories in cold tea. Win, win, win.

But this morning while meditating over the breakfast dishes I made a horrid discovery. The bottom of my tea bottle was covered in a grimy green coating. Disgusting, unhygienic, gross.

What to do? Bicarb and vinegar–nada. Just made a pleasant fizz. Bleach was a no go because I really don’t want to drink the residual chemicals. So there was only one thing for it. A new bottle from the $2 store. Until the germ of an idea started to form helped along by an insinkerator full of egg shells (we’re an omelette loving family).

So this is what I did. I got one of those eggshell halves, squished it up and pushed it down the neck of the bottle. Filled it with a little water, plugged in the cork and shook the shit out of it. And it WORKED!!

So today’s home hint.

To clean a bottle, fill with half an eggshell and a little water, cover and shake vigorously until residue is removed.

I feel like a right little Martha Stewart.
