Just a Gen X girl in the world

What ARE little girls made of?

What are little girls made of? Sugar and spice and a good right hook.

At least that is the case according to my local paper. According to them (and the police) there is a massive increase in Gen Z girls instigating and engaging in violent attacks.

Apparently physical assaults are up by 44% and the authorities are blaming girl fight sites. Girl fight sites, who knew there was such a thing? In all my internet trawling I have never once entered girl fight sites into a Google search.

In fact I have never, ever, ever been involved in a girl fight (does a tussle over the shoe sale at David Jones count?). Actually no female I know has ever been involved in a physical confrontation with another female. I’ve obviously led a sheltered existence. And just for the record, I’m going to keep on leading it because the idea of actually being hit by anyone terrifies me. I wouldn’t hit back, I’d sit down on the ground and cry like the big girl that I am.

However the times they are a changing and not necessarily for the better.

Experts put the blame firmly on the internet. Of course they do. They say that a simple search revealed 73 million hits for girls fighting. Boys are way behind with 24 million. These figures are in the millions people. It’s terrifying. That’s not even going into the You Tube stats where you can enjoy 24 million videos for your viewing pleasure. These kids feed off the reward of having so many publicly view their violent exploits.

Personally I blame the schools, the parents, video games, reality TV shows, the government, feminism, Alvin and the Chipmunks and the hormones in chickens for the problem.

Hormones in chickens? Yes. Because these fighting females are reaching puberty before the age of 12. These are the prime candidates for displays of pugilism in the playground, the taxi queue and that messy scene outside nightclubs at 2am. So not only are they fat, they’re full of raging puberty hormones. No wonder they’re angry.

However there is something that our experts have yet to name and that is the quest for fame that earmarks Generation Z that craves fame over all else. Ask a group of 12 year olds what they most desire. In my experience it is the wish to be famous.

The Pussy Cat Dolls (modern day soothsayers that they are) had their finger right on the Gen Z pulse.

“When I grow up I want to be famous tra la la…”

Actually while we’re on the subject of song lyrics, Pink, you need to take a good hard look at yourself. Exhibit A

“Na na na na na na na I want to start a fight”

Contrast that to what Gen X was listening to at a similar time.

“Like a virgin
Touched for the very first time
Like a vir-ir-ir-gin”
said Madonna

or Marvin Gaye’s

Sexual Healing baby, is good for me
Sexual Healing is something that’s good for me

What a generation we were. All that sex floating around.

Chill, Gen Z. Make love not war.
